Geography of Mauritius Landscapes of Mauritius Coral reefs
The coast of Mauritius is almost entirely surrounded by coral reefs. These coral reefs ensure that the water in the lagoons ( = water between coral reef and beach ) is calm, shallow and warm. It protects the island against the force of the stormy sea. Even the brilliant white sand is due to the coral reefs.
The fascinating underwater landscape of the coral reefs is a real highlight, if not THE highlight of Mauritius.
The tangle of different corals, the many colourful fish and other marine animals make a trip to the underwater world a real experience.
