Mauritius Attractions in Mauritius Nature & Parks Kestrel Valley
All nature lovers should plan a visit to Kestrel Valley. For many years, this privately-owned nature reserve was Mauritius’s hunting ground, wonderfully situated between mountains. Today, the reserve is primarily for visitors interested in nature.
Many long hiking trails are available in this large area, allowing visitors to venture into untouched woodland on guided excursions. The routes run through native rainforests which are otherwise rarely found in Mauritius, and along streams and pools where visitors can swim.
With a little quiet and patience, hikers will soon discover Java deer, monkeys and wild boar as well as a great variety of birds, including native species only found in Mauritius. Visitors should not miss the opportunity to watch the very rare Mauritius Kestrel feeding – a species of which only very few remain.
Kestrel Valley’s restaurant also comes highly recommended, offering as it does a wonderful view across Mauritius and the surrounding nature. The restaurant primarily serves dishes of wild game in the Mauritius style.
A visit to Kestrel Valley offers a wonderful alternative to the beach.
