Mauritius The Population of Mauritius
This lonely strip of land lying in the South with its empty stretches of beach and partially deserted highlands can be deceiving. The relatively small island with approximately 1.3 million residents and a population density of 630 inhabitants per square kilometre is actually one of the most densely populated countries on earth. And as for indigenous people, there aren't any. When the Dutch first landed on the island it was uninhabited. The Dutch did not stay for very long. The French therefore count as the first settlers in Mauritius.
The following ethnic groups live on Mauritius today:
Indo-Mauritians
Creoles
Sino-Mauritians
Franco-Mauritians
Visitors to Mauritius may be surprised that the people, despite such a mix of cultures, languages, and religions in a confined space, manage to get along so peacefully with one another.
This multicultural coexistence, which exhibits not only respect for the other culture but also involvement in the culture of the other, alongside the Mauritian friendliness are just some of the things that make a visit to this lonely island in the Indian Ocean so appealing.
