Mauritius Attractions in Mauritius Nature & Parks Trou aux Cerfs
The town of Curepipe’s main attraction is probably the crater of a long extinct volcano.
The Trou aux Cerfs is located on the edge of Curepipe town at around 600 m above sea level, and on clear days offers a wonderful, panoramic view across the island of Mauritius. The summit is easily accessible via a small street that also runs around the crater. Pavilions, benches and well-tended lawns invite you to stop for a rest or even a picnic.
A walk around the crater (around 90 m deep) allows visitors to enjoy a view both of Curepipe with its beautiful houses and gardens, and of the entire island. With a little luck, in the evening you can enjoy a wonderfully romantic sunset.
